Minding my own business I'm a man of the fields
Tryin' to feed my family with what ever the earth yields
Living day to day can exact quite a cost
I don't need no more work but Iíve been given this cross

So I'm following this teacher on the way to Calvary
I've heard His words I know his work this man from Galilee
He spoke of love and healing but I never did expect
He was talking to me when He said, "Follow in My footsteps"

There's things about religion I just don't understand
I try to keep the law and do what's right I am an honest man
But hungry kids and a home have in effect become my boss
I've got so much to do and now I'm given this cross

The road of life has twists and turns with fear and suffering
But I'm starting to see the peace surrender can bring
The yoke is quite easy and the burden is light
If you let go of your plans and hold the Cross to you tight

So I'm following the teacher on the way to Calvary
There is joy in this journey I did not expect to see
It's not a road I would have chosen but I'll try to accept
